History

In 1971 the Alaska Native Land Claims Settlement Act (ANSCA) was signed into law, promising 44 million acres of land, a little more than 10% of the entire state, and nearly $1 billion in exchange for resolving aboriginal claims. The enactment of ANSCA transferred land titles to Alaska’s indigenous people through the formation of 12 Alaska Native land-owning regional corporations, about 200 village corporations, and one at large corporation. “Their connection to the land is a spiritual one that transcends complex regulatory schemes” – AJ McClanahan, Historian.

Our Parent Company

NANA Regional Corporation was formed in 1972. Since then NANA has become one of several Native-owned corporations doing business worldwide while changing the economic trends of Alaska. The fact that Native corporations have become a major part of Alaska’s economy is a testament to the hard work and resilience of the Native people.

NANA Development Corporation (NDC), the “for-profit” subsidiary of NANA Regional  Corporation, has built a diverse enterprise with world-class clients and partners that extend from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica, across the United States, and to the Middle East and South Pacific. NDC is a growing business leader with sixty subsidiaries specializing in engineering and construction, resource development, base operations and management, facilities maintenance and logistics, information technology and communications, hotels, integrated and specialized support services, and mining, oil, gas, and energy support and services.

Headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, NDC is a billion dollar corporation employing over 9,000 personnel in 47 states and globally. To best manage these diverse business lines, NDC has several established managed service companies to provide administrative and management services to operating subsidiaries.
